Ooni's Ex-Queen, Oriyomi and School Principal Face Murder Charges Over Ibadan Deadly Stampede
The Oyo State Government has filed an eight-count charge against Naomi Silekunola, the ex-queen of the Ooni of Ife, Ibadan Broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat, and Abdulahi Fasasi, the Principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan.
The charges include murder, manslaughter, and criminal negligence following the December 18, 2024, funfair stampede that claimed 35 lives.
The charge sheet, marked I/05C/2025, according to the Punch newspaper was filed on January 10, 2025, before the Oyo State High Court. Governor Seyi Makinde vowed to prosecute.
In the 18 counts, the state government accused the defendants of conspiracy to commit a felony to wit: murder, manslaughter, conspiracy to commit an offence to wit: criminal negligence.
The offences are said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 324 of the Criminal Code, CAP 38, vol ii, Laws of Oyo State, 2000
The prosecution listed names of 14 victims out 35 children who died in the incident, Musiliu Sofiat, 8, female, Lekan Salami, 7, male, Feyikemi Salam, 1.5, female, Olaniyan Joshua, 1.5, male, Laeef Muisi, 8, male, Opeyemi Ayomide, 4, female, Adebayo-Fatimah, 4, female, Adebayo-Abibat, 5, female, Adeyanju Taiwo, 8, female, Salaudeen Khalid, minor, male, Anjorin Faridat, 10, female, Nahaam Muisi, 13, male, Babatunde Toheeb, 18, male
The Islamic High School Principal, Fasasi faces a four-count charge of conspiracy, acceleration of deaths, negligent acts causing harm, and failure to provide adequate security and medical facilities
The defendants have been in prison custody since December 24.
