*Prince Luqman Gbadegesin is Our Choice, Not Prince Abimbola Owoade*- Oyo Kingmakers Insist

The kingmakers in Oyo town have rejected the announcement of Prince Abimbola Owoade by Governor Seyi Makinde as the next Alaafin of the ancient town.

The Kingmakers, in a swift reaction to the announcement which was made available to swiftnewsflow, insisted that Prince Luqman Gbadegesin was their choice and not Prince Abimbola Owoade approved by Governor Seyi Makinde.

This development comes two years after the death of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, former occupier of the throne, and the crisis that trailed the appointment of his successor.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, had announced that Governor Makinde consented to Prince Owoade's appointment after "extensive consultations and traditional divinations" conducted by the Oyo kingmakers, the Oyomesi.

However, the Kingmakers claim they had already selected Prince Luqman Gbadegesin as the next Alaafin, and his name was forwarded to the Governor for approval.

They argue that the Governor's announcement is "illegal and unlawful" and disregards the traditional selection process and the pending court case on the matter.

The Kingmakers, comprising High Chief Yusuf Akínade, Bashorun of Oyo; High Chief Wakeel Akindele, Lagunna of Oyo; High Chief Hamzat Yusuf, Akinniku of Oyo; Chíef Wahab Oyetunji, warrant chief stand-in for Asipa of Oyo; and Chief Gbadebo Mufutau, warrant chief stand-in for Alapinní of Oyo, warned the Governor against embarking on any step that could be seen as illegal.

In a letter written and signed on their behalf by their legal representative, Adekunle Sobaloju SAN, they stated that the Governor's attempt to kickstart a new process is a disregard to his oath of office, legal, and constitutional duty to abide by the constitution and give utmost regard to the court.

The Kingmakers' rejection of Prince Owoade's appointment suggests that the controversy is far from over.
